Our first visit to Brazilian schools! We had the opportunity to visit one of Brazil's public high schools: Instituto Federal de Brasilia- IFB. A beautiful, open-air campus, this school offers a variety of secondary and graduate level classes for students. The school's proud director did a wonderful job describing the school's programs and goal, but sadly, we didn't observe many students because of Brasilia's public transportation strike. IFB's students primarily rely on public transport to get to school, and missing school is a result of the strike.

Liberato! His translations have been so helpful, considering my barely-there Portuguese!

Our next visit to a private school, Sigma Asa Norte, was an informative, engaging, and wonderful experience! We had the opportunity to actually participate in a Q&A with English-speaking students and teachers at the school, and we were more than welcomed by both. The school's spirited teachers were visibly engaged with the students and the elementary children excitedly shouting "Hi!" to us were endearing:) The school treated us to a healthy and delicious school lunch full of fresh fruits and vegetables- something I haven't seen in many US schools.

An elementary classroom: bright and student-centered!

On the door of an English language classroom... soon to be posted in my classroom!
